COMMEMORATING the 40th Anniversary of A New Hope
Center and recognizing its outstanding service to
the residents of Tioga County and the Southern Tier
of New York State
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those organizations whose dedication and service have
significantly enhanced the quality of life within their communities and
throughout the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its
longstanding traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of A New Hope Center to be celebrated
at its Ruby Jubilee event on Wednesday, June 10, 2026; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1986, A New Hope Center has faithfully served
individuals and families affected by domestic violence, intimate partner
violence, sexual violence, trafficking, child abuse, and other crimes,
providing essential support, advocacy, and resources to some of the most
vulnerable members of the community; and
WHEREAS, Located in Owego, New York, A New Hope Center serves as the
comprehensive crime victim service provider for Tioga County, offering
free and confidential services designed to promote safety, healing,
stability, and empowerment for those impacted by violence and crime; and
WHEREAS, Through its dedicated staff and volunteers, A New Hope
Center provides supportive counseling, systems advocacy, community
education programs, a 24-hour hotline and textline, and emergency safe
dwelling services for individuals and families seeking immediate refuge
from abusive situations; and
WHEREAS, The organization assists approximately 1,200 individuals
annually and provides emergency housing to dozens of families each year,
ensuring that those facing crisis have access to safety, support, and
pathways toward long-term stability and independence; and
WHEREAS, For four decades, A New Hope Center has demonstrated an
unwavering commitment to strengthening families, promoting public
safety, and fostering healthier communities through prevention,
education, advocacy, and direct services; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of its exceptional contributions, A New Hope
Center was honored as the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce August
Nonprofit Spotlight, highlighting the organization's enduring impact and
valued role within the region; and
WHEREAS, Further reflecting its reputation for excellence and
service, the Center's 24-hour crime victims assistance program received
special recognition for its commitment to fostering strong families and
supporting those affected by violence and trauma; and
WHEREAS, The continued success of A New Hope Center is a tribute to
the vision, dedication, and compassion of its leadership, staff,
volunteers, supporters, and community partners, whose collective efforts
have transformed countless lives and strengthened the fabric of Tioga
County; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
organization such as A New Hope Center, whose mission and
accomplishments have earned the admiration and gratitude of the citizens
it serves; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of A New Hope Center, and to recognize
its exemplary service to the people of Tioga County and the State of New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to A New Hope Center in Owego, New York.
