Assembly Resolution No. 473

        HONORING  the  life  and  legacy  of  HaRav Schwab
        zt"l's
 
  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York  whose  lifework  and  civic  endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
 
  WHEREAS,  HaRav  Moshe  Gedalia Schwab zt"l, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva
Degel HaTorah and Mesivta Maamar Mordechai in Monsey, New  York,  was  a
revered leader, educator and spiritual guide to countless individuals in
his community and beyond; and
 
  WHEREAS,  HaRav  Schwab zt"l, a son of Rav Mordechai Menachem Schwab
zt"l, the mashgiach of Mesivta Bais Shraga, dedicated his  life  to  the
pursuit  of  Torah  learning  and spiritual growth, becoming a beacon of
wisdom and humility; and
 
  WHEREAS, Under  his  visionary  leadership,  Yeshiva  Degel  HaTorah
flourished,  producing generations of exemplary b'nei Torah who continue
to contribute to the growth of the Jewish community; and
 
  WHEREAS, HaRav Schwab zt"l's teachings on Jewish prayer, co-authored
with his father in the  book  "Rav  Schwab  on  Prayer,"  have  left  an
indelible   mark   on  the  Jewish  world,  guiding  many  to  a  deeper
understanding of their relationship with Hashem; and
 
  WHEREAS, HaRav Schwab zt"l's leadership extended beyond his role  as
a  Rosh  Yeshiva,  as  he  played  an  integral  part  in  many communal
activities, providing counsel, comfort and guidance to  all  who  sought
his wisdom; and
 
  WHEREAS,  HaRav  Schwab  zt"l devoted the later years of his life to
fearlessly defending Torah-true education, traveling to Albany, New York
to meet with government officials  and  speak  out  in  support  of  the
Orthodox  Jewish  education  system,  ensuring  its continued growth and
preservation; and
 
  WHEREAS, HaRav Schwab zt"l's passing on March  28,  2025,  leaves  a
void  in  the  hearts of his family, his talmidim and the broader Jewish
community, but his legacy will continue  to  inspire  and  guide  future
generations; and
 
  WHEREAS,  HaRav  Schwab  zt"l is survived by his wife, Mrs. Sarah K.
Schwab; their children, R'Eli, R'Avrohom  Dovid,  R'Asher,  R'Yechezkal,
R'Yehoshua,   R'Dov,  R'Mordechai,  Mrs.  Rivka  Birnhack,  Mrs.  Miriam
Kamenetsky, Mrs.   Elisheva  Kotler  and  Mrs.  Etty  Bilius;  and  many
grandchildren,  all of whom carry on his legacy in their lives and work;
and
 
  WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a  sense  of
compassion,  HaRav  Schwab  zt"l  leaves behind a legacy which will long
 
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the life, legacy, and contributions of HaRav Moshe Gedalia  Schwab
zt"l; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of HaRav Schwab zt"l's.
