Assembly Resolution No. 655

        RECOGNIZING  Christina Scofield as Civilian of the
        Year 2025 at the  131st  Annual  Convention  of  the
        Central New York Firefighters Association
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals whose outstanding actions  and  selfless  dedication
contribute  greatly  to  the safety, well-being, and betterment of their
communities; and
 
  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize Christina
Scofield,  who will be honored as Civilian of the Year 2025 at the 131st
Annual Convention of the  Central  New  York  Firefighters  Association,
hosted  by the New York Mills Fire Department in New Hartford, New York,
from July 18-20, 2025; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  Civilian  of  the  Year  Award  is  presented  to  an
individual   outside   of   the   fire   service  who  has  demonstrated
extraordinary courage, compassion, or service in  support  of  emergency
responders, public safety, or their fellow citizens; and
 
  WHEREAS,  On  June  19, 2024, Christina Scofield heard a young child
crying profusely from a car on a 99-degree day  and  went  to  check  on
them; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Christina  found  a  two-year-old and a five-year-old in a
locked vehicle with the back window down, no air  conditioning  running,
and no parent or guardian around and leapt straight into action, calling
911  and attempting to cool the children down with a water-soaked towel;
and
 
  WHEREAS, After the police arrived and the children were removed from
the vehicle,  Christina  noticed  the  two-year-old  beginning  to  lose
consciousness  from  the  heat  and  immediately brought her into a cool
space to bring her  temperature  down  while  waiting  for  Fire/EMS  to
arrive; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  a  moment  that called for quick thinking and resolute
action, Christina Scofield rose to the occasion with bravery, clarity of
mind, and a deep sense of duty to others; and
 
  WHEREAS, The heroic actions and dedication demonstrated by Christina
Scofield embody the highest ideals of civic responsibility  and  reflect
great  credit  upon themselves, their community, and all those who serve
in public safety; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative  Body  that  those  who
give  of  themselves so courageously and generously should be recognized
and applauded by all New Yorkers; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
honor Christina Scofield as Civilian of the Year 2025, in recognition of
 
their  remarkable  service,  bravery,  and  commitment  to the people of
Central New York; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Christina Scofield, with the highest esteem and gratitude
of this Legislative Body.
