HONORING the late Captain Robert R. DeLeon for his
36 years of service to the Fire Department of New
York City
WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our noble FDNY paramedics who exhibit courage and bravery
every day in the course of their duties; and
WHEREAS, FDNY paramedics exemplify the power of human compassion and
the strength of the American spirit through actions of the most heroic
magnitude; their sacrifices and their selfless dedication merit tribute
and recognition by all citizens of this great country; and
WHEREAS, Captain Robert R. DeLeon had given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the late
Captain Robert R. DeLeon for his 36 years of service to the Fire
Department of New York City; and
WHEREAS, Captain Robert R. DeLeon passed away on April 16, 2024; and
WHEREAS, In his service to the City of New York, Captain Robert R.
DeLeon showcased his profound commitment to the safety and well-being of
its residents and spent a significant portion of his career dedicated to
serving the people of the Bronx, New York, this included working at
Jacobi Hospital, which exemplified his Bronx pride and unwavering
dedication to the community; and
WHEREAS, Captain Robert R. DeLeon played a pivotal role in the
rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center following the 9/11
attacks; his selfless dedication to duty in the face of unimaginable
tragedy illustrated the unwavering commitment to his community and the
extraordinary courage that he was known for; and
WHEREAS, Through his role overseeing narcotic medication management
and distribution, Captain Robert R. DeLeon demonstrated his strong
leadership and commitment to detail, ensuring that critical resources
were handled with precision and care to support NYC's emergency medical
services; and
WHEREAS, Captain Robert R. DeLeon was seen as an incredibly generous
person who remained committed to helping others while exemplifying the
steady calmness that is paramount for the emergency services; and
WHEREAS, Driven by a desire to make a lasting impact and to leave a
mark that would outlast him, Captain Robert R. DeLeon believed that his
work would create a legacy that would inspire others to follow in his
footsteps; and
WHEREAS, FDNY paramedics unwaveringly serve our great State with
pride, valor, and integrity; these respected heroes are often the first
to respond to an emergency, whether the emergency is a fire,
transportation accident, natural disaster, act of terrorism, medical
crisis, or spill of hazardous materials; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help
others and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with
family and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need;
Captain Robert R. DeLeon was such a FDNY paramedic; throughout 36 years
of devoted service, he heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the late Captain Robert R. DeLeon for his 36 years of service to
the Fire Department of New York City; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Captain Robert R. DeLeon.
