HONORING Coach Keith Smith upon the occasion of
his retirement, recognizing his 40 years of
dedicated service to Yorktown Track and Field
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the quality of life in their communities and across this great
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
longstanding traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Coach Keith Smith upon the occasion of his retirement, recognizing his
extraordinary 40-year coaching career with the Yorktown High School
Track and Field Program; and
WHEREAS, Throughout four decades of dedication, Coach Keith Smith
has shaped not only the athletic skill but also the character,
discipline, and determination of hundreds of student-athletes, leaving a
lasting legacy in both Yorktown and the wider Section 1 athletic
community; and
WHEREAS, Under Coach Keith Smith's steadfast leadership, the
Yorktown Track and Field teams achieved numerous league, sectional, and
invitational titles, consistently earning respect for their excellence,
sportsmanship, and unity; and
WHEREAS, Coach Keith Smith's influence extended beyond the track, as
he fostered a culture of academic achievement, personal integrity, and
community pride among his athletes, many of whom have gone on to succeed
in college athletics and professional life; and
WHEREAS, Coach Keith Smith was known not only for his tactical
knowledge and coaching acumen, but for his unwavering belief in every
student's potential, encouraging athletes of all abilities to push their
limits and support one another; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his coaching success, Coach Keith Smith has
served as a mentor, educator, and role model to generations of students,
contributing to the broader mission of public education and youth
development; and
WHEREAS, Coach Keith Smith's retirement marks the conclusion of an
era in Yorktown athletics, but his values, leadership, and dedication
will continue to resonate through the lives of those he has coached,
mentored, and inspired; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Coach Keith Smith upon the occasion of his retirement, recognizing
his 40 years of exemplary service to Yorktown Track and Field and to the
community at large; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Coach Keith Smith.
