COMMEMORATING the 130th Anniversary of the Pawling
Fire Department in the Town and Village of Pawling,
Dutchess County, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend fire departments within the State of New York that have
demonstrated a long-standing commitment to public safety, volunteerism,
and community service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
longstanding traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the Pawling Fire Department on the occasion of its 130th Anniversary,
marking over a century of courageous and selfless service to the
residents of the Town and Village of Pawling, Dutchess County; and
WHEREAS, The Pawling Fire Department was officially established on
October 1, 1895, when it was sanctioned by the Village of Pawling, with
an original force of 39 volunteer members operating from two stations;
and
WHEREAS, In its earliest days, the department protected
approximately one square mile of the community using hand-drawn
equipment and the strength and bravery of its members; and
WHEREAS, In 1897, community member John Dutcher presented the
department with its first set of protective gear, laying the foundation
for the department's ongoing commitment to firefighter safety and
readiness; and
WHEREAS, As the needs of the growing community expanded, so too did
the department; today, the Pawling Fire Department proudly operates out
of three stations: Station 1 at 26 South Street in Pawling, Station 2 at
338 State Route 292 in Holmes, and Station 3 at 627 Quaker Hill Road in
Pawling; and
WHEREAS, In 1983, the cornerstone of Station 1 was laid, symbolizing
the department's advancement in equipment and technology to better
protect the Town and Village of Pawling; and
WHEREAS, The Pawling Fire Department celebrated its 100th
Anniversary in 1995, and now, in 2025, proudly celebrates 130 years of
dedicated service, preserving its legacy of community protection,
professionalism, and volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, For over 130 years, the Pawling Fire Department has
remained a pillar of strength and safety in the community, responding to
emergencies with commitment, courage, and care; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor and commend the Pawling Fire Department on the occasion of its
130th Anniversary and to express its deepest gratitude for the
department's outstanding service to Dutchess County and the State of New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Pawling Fire Department in recognition of this
historic milestone.
