MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
August 5, 2025, as Night Out in the State of New
York, in conjunction with the observance of National
Night Out
WHEREAS, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign
that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood
camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live;
and
WHEREAS, Since its founding in 1984 by the National Association of
Town Watch, National Night Out has grown into a nationwide celebration
involving millions of residents across thousands of communities from all
50 states, U.S. territories, and military bases worldwide; and
WHEREAS, On the first Tuesday in August each year, neighbors across
New York State and the Nation come together to host block parties,
cookouts, parades, safety demonstrations, youth events, and other
community events that foster solidarity and promote public safety
awareness; and
WHEREAS, In communities like East Elmhurst, Corona, Lefrak City, and
Rego Park, New York, National Night Out represents a vital opportunity
to deepen bonds between residents and the public safety officers who
protect them; and
WHEREAS, These gatherings serve as reminders of the importance of
collective engagement in crime prevention efforts and mutual respect
between law enforcement and the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, National Night Out reinforces the principle that public
safety is a shared responsibility, requiring collaboration,
communication, and trust; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim August 5, 2025, as Night
Out in the State of New York, in conjunction with the observance of
National Night Out, and to commend all those across our state who
participate in this celebration of unity and neighborhood pride; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York.
