MEMORIALIZING Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim
September 28, 2025, as Good Neighbor Day in the
State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National Good Neighbor Day
WHEREAS, National Good Neighbor Day is observed annually on
September 28 to recognize the importance of fostering strong,
supportive, and respectful relationships among neighbors and within
communities; and
WHEREAS, Originally established in 1978 by presidential
proclamation, this day encourages individuals across the nation to build
connections, resolve conflicts, and participate in acts of kindness that
strengthen neighborhood bonds; and
WHEREAS, In neighborhoods such as East Elmhurst, Corona, Lefrak
City, and Rego Park, New York, neighbors are the backbone of resilient
communities, offering mutual aid, cultural exchange, and everyday
support that make our neighborhoods thrive; and
WHEREAS, National Good Neighbor Day uplifts values such as
compassion, civic responsibility, and cooperation, which are essential
to addressing shared challenges and building safer, healthier
communities; and
WHEREAS, Encouraging neighborly engagement fosters social cohesion,
reduces isolation, and promotes inclusive environments where all
residents can thrive; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Kathy Hochul to proclaim September 28, 2025, as
Good Neighbor Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the
observance of National Good Neighbor Day; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Kathy Hochul, Governor of the State of New
York.
