Assembly Resolution No. 801

        CONGRATULATING  Pope  Leo XIV upon his election as
        the first American Pope and  extending  best  wishes
        for  his spiritual leadership and global ministry as
        the leader of the Catholic Church
 
  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is  justly  proud  to  recognize  and
commend  spiritual  leaders  whose  influence extends across nations and
whose ministry brings hope, unity, and moral guidance to millions; and
 
  WHEREAS, On May 8, 2025, Pope Leo XIV was  elected  to  the  papacy,
becoming  the first American Pope and the 268th successor to Saint Peter
and the supreme pontiff of the Roman  Catholic  Church,  a  position  of
great responsibility and spiritual significance; and
 
  WHEREAS,  The  election  of  Pope  Leo  XIV has energized the nearly
17,000 Catholic parishes in the United States and the  more  than  1,300
parishes  in  New  York  State,  including Most Precious Blood Parish in
Walden, New York; and
 
  WHEREAS, Pope Leo XIV brings to the papacy a wealth  of  theological
scholarship,  pastoral  experience,  and  a  deep  commitment  to social
justice, compassion, and interfaith dialogue; and
 
  WHEREAS, Throughout his  ministry,  Pope  Leo  XIV  has  exemplified
humility,  wisdom,  and  a  tireless devotion to the spiritual and moral
well-being of people across the globe, embodying the  values  of  peace,
charity, and service to the poor and marginalized; and
 
  WHEREAS,  His  election  has  been  met  with  great joy and hope by
Catholics and non-Catholics alike, who look forward to his leadership in
confronting the challenges of the modern world with faith, courage,  and
a renewed spirit of unity; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this Legislative Body to honor and
celebrate historic and inspiring moments  in  the  life  of  the  global
community,  and  to commend those whose lives are dedicated to uplifting
others through faith and example; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate  Pope  Leo XIV upon his election as the first American Pope
and  to  extend  sincere  best  wishes  for  a  fruitful  and  inspiring
pontificate; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Vatican City.
