AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to discounted
tolls on the Verrazano-Narrows bridge for residents of Kings county
using a personal vehicle
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The public authorities law is amended by adding a new
2 section 553-l to read as follows:
3 § 553-l. Verrazano-Narrows reduced toll; Kings county. Notwithstand-
4 ing any inconsistent provision of law, but subject to agreements with
5 noteholders and bondholders, the authority shall establish a reduced
6 toll for residents of the county of Kings as set forth in this section,
7 which shall entitle such residents using a personal vehicle to crossings
8 over the Verrazano-Narrows bridge at a reduced cost of seventy per
9 centum of the regular crossing fare imposed on nonresidents of the coun-
10 ty of Kings. In the event the authority shall impose a surcharge in
11 addition to the regular toll for crossings over the Verrazano-Narrows
12 bridge, such surcharge shall not be deemed a part of the regular cross-
13 ing fare for purposes of this section, and such residents of the county
14 of Kings shall be entitled to a permanent exemption from the payment of
15 any such surcharge. The provisions of this section shall apply to resi-
16 dents of Kings county who utilize a personal vehicle with an electronic
17 method of toll payment and who cross the Verrazano-Narrows bridge six or
18 more times per month. Application for such discount shall be made in
19 such manner as prescribed by the authority and shall contain such infor-
20 mation as the authority may reasonably require.
21 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
