        Introduced  by Sens. PERSAUD, ADDABBO -- read twice and ordered printed,
          and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Cities 1
 
        AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the  city  of  New  York,  in
          relation to increasing fines for individuals who fail to comply with a
          stop work order

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 28-207.2.6 of the administrative code of  the  city
     2  of  New  York, as amended by section 2 of part A of local law number 126
     3  of the city of New York for  the  year  2021,  is  amended  to  read  as
     4  follows:
     5    §  28-207.2.6  Penalties. In addition to the penalties provided for in
     6  this chapter, any person who fails to comply  with  a  stop  work  order
     7  shall  be  liable  for a civil penalty in the amount of [$6,000] $10,000
     8  for the initial violation and [$12,000]  $20,000  for  every  subsequent
     9  violation,  to  be paid to the department prior to the rescission of the
    10  stop work order; provided, however, this shall not  apply  to  any  work
    11  performed  to  remedy  an unsafe or hazardous condition as authorized by
    12  order of the commissioner.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day  after  it  shall
    14  have become a law.
