AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to eliminating
registration fees for distinctive plates for gold star mothers
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Subdivision 3 of section 404-i of the vehicle and traffic
2 law, as amended by chapter 486 of the laws of 1996, is amended to read
3 as follows:
4 3. A distinctive plate issued pursuant to this section shall be issued
5 in the same manner as other number plates [upon payment of the regular
6 registration fee prescribed by section four hundred one of this arti-
7 cle], provided, however, that no fee or service charge shall be charged
8 for such plate.
9 § 2. Subdivision 6 of section 401 of the vehicle and traffic law is
10 amended by adding a new paragraph b-2 to read as follows:
11 b-2. The provisions of this article with respect to the fees for a
12 gold star family license plate, including such plates under section four
13 hundred four-i of this title, shall not incur any registration fee or
14 service charge.
15 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
