        Introduced  by  Sen.  O'MARA -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Codes
 
        AN ACT to amend the criminal procedure  law,  in  relation  to  granting
          peace  officer status to officers and members of the security force of
          Arnot Health, Inc.

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  Section  2.10 of the criminal procedure law is amended by
     2  adding a new subdivision 86 to read as follows:
     3    86. Officers and members of  the  security  force  employed  by  Arnot
     4  Health,  Inc.  The  geographic  area  of  employment  for peace officers
     5  employed by Arnot Health, Inc. shall include any public street and side-
     6  walk that abuts the  grounds,  buildings  or  property  of  a  hospital,
     7  medical  office  building  or  clinical  site owned or operated by Arnot
     8  Health, Inc. in Chemung county.   Such  officers  shall  only  have  the
     9  powers listed in paragraphs (a), (b), (c), and (d) of subdivision one of
    10  section 2.20 of this article, as well as the power to detain an individ-
    11  ual  for  a  reasonable period of time while awaiting the arrival of law
    12  enforcement, provided that the officer has actual knowledge, or probable
    13  cause to  believe,  that  such  individual  has  committed  an  offense;
    14  provided  however,  that  nothing in this subdivision shall be deemed to
    15  authorize such officer to carry, possess, repair or dispose of a firearm
    16  unless the appropriate license therefor  has  been  issued  pursuant  to
    17  section 400.00 of the penal law.
    18    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
