AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to the Fair
Fares act
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 1266 of the public authorities law is amended by
2 adding a new subdivision 16-a to read as follows:
3 16-a. (a) Notwithstanding any other provisions of law or the terms of
4 any contract, the city of New York, in consultation with the authority,
5 shall expand the Fair Fares NYC program to permit any individual who is
6 eligible for the program and any individual whose income is three
7 hundred percent of the federal poverty level to receive a fifty percent
8 discount on trips using the Long Island Rail Road, paratransit services,
9 New York city transit subways or buses, and/or Metro-North railroad.
10 Such expansion shall be funded by the city of New York.
11 (b) For purposes of this subdivision, "Fair Fares NYC program" shall
12 have the same meaning and eligibility standards as set forth in chapter
13 twelve of title sixty-eight of the rules of the city of New York, which
14 provides a fifty percent fare discount for designated transit options.
15 (c) Additionally, the city of New York shall conduct a public outreach
16 campaign to increase public awareness and expand usage of the Fair Fares
17 NYC program by eligible individuals.
18 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
