AN ACT to amend the highway law, in relation to designating a portion of
the state highway system to Port Authority Police Officers Arthur M.
Ansert Jr. and William J. Leahy
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-r to
2 read as follows:
3 § 344-r. Portion of the state highway system to be dedicated to Port
4 Authority Police Officers Arthur M. Ansert Jr. and William J. Leahy. All
5 that portion of the state highway system constituting the bridge on the
6 South Service Road, between Federal Circle and the Perimeter Road Over-
7 pass, crossing over the Van Wyck Expressway in the neighborhood of
8 Jamaica, county of Queens, shall be dedicated to Port Authority Police
9 Officers Arthur M. Ansert Jr. and William J. Leahy.
10 § 2. The commissioner of transportation, in consultation with the
11 executive director of the port authority of New York and New Jersey,
12 shall provide for the installation and maintenance of adequate signing
13 of the state highway system as dedicated pursuant to section one of this
14 act, provided that such signing shall state "Bridge Dedicated to Port
15 Authority Police Officers Arthur M Ansert Jr and William J Leahy".
16 However, to avoid confusion and to limit any possible disruption of
17 commerce, the dedication called for pursuant to section one of this act
18 shall be one of ceremonial nature and the official name of such bridge
19 shall not be changed as a result of this act.
20 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
