        Introduced  by Sen. STAVISKY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation  to  authorizing  medical
          assistants to administer vaccinations
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 6527 of the education law is amended  by  adding  a
     2  new subdivision 12 to read as follows:
     3    12.  Notwithstanding any other law, rule, or regulation to the contra-
     4  ry, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants  shall  be
     5  authorized to delegate the task of drawing up and administering vaccina-
     6  tions to medical assistants in an office setting, provided that:
     7    (a)  such vaccinations are recommended by the federal advisory commit-
     8  tee for immunization practices and the centers for disease  control  and
     9  prevention; and
    10    (b)  such medical assistants receive appropriate training and adequate
    11  supervision  in  administering  immunizations  pursuant  to  regulations
    12  determined by the commissioner.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
