        Introduced  by  Sen.  WEIK  --  read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Health
 
        AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to requiring security
          at all publicly accessible entrances of general hospitals
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  The  public health law is amended by adding a new section
     2  2805-aa to read as follows:
     3    § 2805-aa. General hospital security. Every general hospital shall  be
     4  required  to have either one off-duty law enforcement officer or trained
     5  security personnel be present at all times at each  publicly  accessible
     6  entrance  or  have  installed  locking doors at each publicly accessible
     7  entrance. Every general hospital shall also  provide  wearable  employee
     8  panic  buttons or alert devices capable of immediately notifying on-site
     9  security personnel or law enforcement in the event of a dangerous  situ-
    10  ation  or  emergency.  Such  panic  buttons  or alert devices shall have
    11  replaceable or rechargeable batteries that can be changed  by  employees
    12  without  requiring  the assistance of security or maintenance personnel.
    13  Each general hospital shall maintain procedures to ensure  such  devices
    14  remain functional and available to all employees during work shifts.
    15    § 2. This act shall take effect on the two hundred eightieth day after
    16  it shall have become a law.
