        Introduced  by  Sen.  COONEY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when
          printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation
 
        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to  prohibiting
          the use of virtual reality headsets while operating a motor vehicle
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Subdivision 24-a of section 375 of the vehicle and  traffic
     2  law,  as added by chapter 604 of the laws of 1983, is amended to read as
     3  follows:
     4    24-a. It shall be unlawful to operate upon any public highway in  this
     5  state a motor vehicle, limited use automobile, limited use motorcycle or
     6  bicycle while the operator is wearing more than one earphone attached to
     7  a radio, tape player or other audio device or is wearing a virtual real-
     8  ity headset.
     9    §  2.  This  act  shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall
    10  have become a law.    Effective  immediately,  the  addition,  amendment
    11  and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation
    12  of  this  act  on  its  effective  date  are  authorized  to be made and
    13  completed on or before such effective date.
