CLEARE -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on New York City Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to establishing a free lifeguard training program in high schools in a city with a population of one million or more The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 927 to 2 read as follows: 3 § 927. High school lifeguard training program. The department shall 4 establish and administer a free lifeguard training program in high 5 schools of school districts located in a city with a population of one 6 million or more. Such program shall be operated year round, under the 7 direction and advisement of the department. Participating students shall 8 have preexisting experience in swimming and water safety, as determined 9 by the school district. Within amounts appropriated therefor, the 10 department shall cover all fees and costs of a state-approved lifeguard 11 certification exam for any student upon completion of the training 12 program established pursuant to this section. 13 § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding 14 the date on which it shall have become a law.
