AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to requiring an annual
report on perpetrators of violent crimes resulting in the death of a
crime victim
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 837-a of the executive law is amended by adding a
2 new subdivision 10 to read as follows:
3 10. Present to the governor, temporary president of the senate, minor-
4 ity leader of the senate, speaker of the assembly and the minority lead-
5 er of the assembly an annual report analyzing the perpetrators of
6 violent crimes resulting in the death of a crime victim. Such report
7 shall include the crimes with which the defendant was charged, the coun-
8 ty within which the indictment or superior court information was filed,
9 the disposition thereof including, but not limited to, as the case may
10 be, dismissal, acquittal and the offense to which the defendant pleaded
11 guilty, the offense the defendant was convicted of after trial and the
12 sentence imposed, the parole or probationary status of the defendant at
13 the time of indictment, the number of prior felony arrests, and the age
14 of the defendant at the time of each such arrest. Such report shall
15 exclude domestic violence-related deaths, as such term is defined by
16 subdivision ten of section five hundred seventy-five of this chapter.
17 Each annual report shall pertain to the immediately preceding year and
18 be presented no later than June first of each year.
19 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
