AN ACT to amend the agriculture and markets law, in relation to the
definition of land used in silvopasturing
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Subdivision 4 of section 301 of the agriculture and markets
2 law is amended by adding a new paragraph m to read as follows:
3 m. Land used in silvopasturing shall be limited to up to ten fenced
4 acres per large livestock, including cattle, horses and camelids, and up
5 to five fenced acres per small livestock, such as sheep, hogs, goats and
6 poultry. For the purposes of this subdivision, "silvopasturing" shall
7 mean the intentional combination of trees, forages and livestock managed
8 as a single integrated practice for the collective benefit of each,
9 including the planting of appropriate grasses and legume forages among
10 trees for sound grazing and livestock husbandry.
11 § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next succeed-
12 ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
