        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to courses  of  study  in
          internet safety
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Subdivisions 1 and 2 of section 814 of the  education  law,
     2  as  added  by  chapter  526  of the laws of 2006, are amended to read as
     3  follows:
     4    1.  [Any] All school [district] districts, public and private, in  the
     5  state  [may]  shall  provide,  to  pupils in grades kindergarten through
     6  twelve, instruction designed to promote the proper and safe use  of  the
     7  internet.
     8    2.  The  commissioner  shall provide technical assistance to assist in
     9  the development of curricula for such courses of study  which  shall  be

    10  age  appropriate  and  developed according to the needs and abilities of
    11  pupils at successive grade levels in order to provide awareness, skills,
    12  information security, cyber ethics and support to aid in the safe  usage
    13  of  the  internet.  Such  curricula  shall be updated as new threats are
    14  identified.
    15    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
