        AN ACT to amend the tax law, in relation to credits against tax
 

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  Section  606  of  the  tax law is amended by adding a new
     2  subsection (qq) to read as follows:
     3    (qq) Energy star appliance credit. A taxpayer shall be allowed a cred-
     4  it in the sum of three hundred dollars beginning  on  or  after  January
     5  first,  two  thousand  ten  and ending before December thirty-first, two
     6  thousand sixteen if he or she purchases three or more energy star appli-
     7  ances. For the purposes of this section the  term  "energy  star"  shall
     8  mean a designation from the United States environmental protection agen-
     9  cy  or  department  of energy indicating that a product meets the energy

    10  efficiency standards set forth by the agency  for  compliance  with  the
    11  energy  star program. The term "appliance" shall mean but not be limited
    12  to refrigerator, room air conditioner, dishwasher or clothes  washer  or
    13  dryer.
    14    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall apply to all tax
    15  years  beginning  on or after January 1, 2010 and ending before December
    16  31, 2016.
