CLARK, ORTIZ -- Multi-Sponsored by -- M. of A. COOK, GALEF -- read once and referred to the Committee on Education AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to authorizing public school principals and chief administrators to enroll academically low-performing students in after-school education programs The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 816 to 2 read as follows: 3 § 816. Authorization to enroll under-performing students in academic 4 after-school programs. The principal or chief administrator of each New 5 York state public school shall have the authority to enroll any student 6 attending such school and performing below academic standards in any 7 subject required for graduation in an after-school program offering 8 training or tutoring in such subject. Such after-school program may be 9 conducted on school premises or at a neighboring school or other neigh- 10 boring educational facilities that conduct academic after-school 11 programs approved by the commissioner. 12 § 2.
