        Introduced by M. of A. KATZ, CORWIN, TENNEY -- read once and referred to
          the Committee on Governmental Operations
 
        AN  ACT  to  amend  the  legislative law, in relation to term limits for
          members of the legislature
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 

     1    Section  1.  The legislative law is amended by adding two new sections
     2  2-a and 5-b to read as follows:
     3    § 2-a. Legislative term limits. Members of the state legislature shall
     4  not serve more than eight years in either the senate or the assembly.
     5    § 5-b. Legislative leadership position term limits. No member  of  the
     6  state  legislature  shall  serve  as an officer or in a special capacity
     7  position, as defined under section five-a of this article, for more than
     8  four years.
     9    § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of January next  succeed-
    10  ing  the date on which it shall become law and shall apply to offices in
    11  the legislature which commence on or after such effective date.
