PRETLOW -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Insurance AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to requiring insur- ance companies to issue joint checks for payment to an insured and a health care provider in certain circumstances The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The public health law is amended by adding a new section 2 4406-i to read as follows: 3 § 4406-i. Payment for out-of-network health care services; joint 4 checks. An insurance company subject to article thirty-two of this chap- 5 ter, shall issue and provide an insured with a joint check made out to 6 both the insured and to a health care provider for the purposes of 7 payment to such health care provider for any out-of-network services 8 rendered to the insured. Such check shall list the full name of the 9 insured with the word "and" after such name followed by the name of the 10 health care provider or group practice. 11 § 2.
