AN ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to granting a waiver
of half of the civil service examination fee to veterans
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The civil service law is amended by adding a new section
2 50-d to read as follows:
3 § 50-d. Civil service examination fee; waiver for veterans. 1. The
4 president, in consultation with the department, shall establish a
5 program waiving half of the civil service examination fee for veterans
6 as defined pursuant to subdivision one of section twenty-six hundred
7 thirty-two of the public health law.
8 2. The waiver, granted pursuant to subdivision one of this section,
9 shall be administered by the president, in conjunction with the depart-
10 ment. Each such person shall be granted a waiver for a maximum of two
11 applications filed, in accordance with the provisions of this title, to
12 compete in an examination for a position in a competitive or non-compet-
13 itive class of civil service employment in the state of New York or any
14 of its subdivisions, or in a labor class when examination for appoint-
15 ment is required.
16 3. The president shall establish and promulgate rules and regulations
17 for the purpose of establishing and carrying out such civil service
18 examination fee waiver program. Such rules and regulations shall require
19 the presentation of DD form 214 or any other such document as proof of
20 such person's status as a veteran.
21 § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after
22 it shall have become a law; provided that, effective immediately, the
23 addition, amendment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary
24 for the implementation of this act on its effective date is authorized
25 to be made on or before such date.
