AN ACT to direct the education department to evaluate and report on the
effects of establishing a four day school week for students in public
schools
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The education department shall examine, evaluate and make
2 recommendations concerning the adoption and implementation of a four day
3 school week for students in public schools. The education department
4 shall review and analyze, with particular care, the cost savings and
5 effect on the provision of instruction to and achievement of students
6 resulting from the establishment of a four day school week.
7 § 2. The education department shall, on or before July 1, 2011, report
8 its findings, conclusions and recommendations to the governor, legisla-
9 ture and board of regents. The report shall include a summary of the
10 specific cost savings derived from the implementation of a four day
11 school week, and the effects thereof upon the education of public school
12 students.
13 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
