        Introduced  by M. of A. PRETLOW -- read once and referred to the Commit-
          tee on Economic Development
 
        AN ACT to amend the general business law, in relation  to  the  unlawful
          sale of law enforcement identification
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
     2  139 to read as follows:
     3    § 139. Unlawful sale of law enforcement insignia. No person shall sell
     4  any badge, shield, identification card or other insignia of  any  police
     5  department or law enforcement agency of any county, city, town, village,
     6  commission or authority of this state, or a facsimile of any such badge,
     7  shield,  identification card or insignia except as authorized by rule or
     8  regulation adopted by such police department or law enforcement  agency.
     9  A  violation of the provisions of this section shall be punishable  by a
    10  civil penalty of not more  than  two  hundred  fifty  dollars  for  each
    11  violation.
    12    §  2.  This  act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall
    13  have become a law.
