        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law,  in  relation  to  seasonal
          registration
 

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 5 of section 401 of the vehicle and traffic law
     2  is amended by adding a new paragraph d to read as follows:
     3    d. Upon filing of an application on a form prescribed by  the  commis-
     4  sioner,  the  owner or lessee of a passenger vehicle, recreational motor
     5  vehicle, motorcycle, truck or farm vehicle which  has  a  gross  vehicle
     6  weight  of ten thousand pounds or less may register the vehicle with the
     7  department for a period of successive months of less than one year.  The
     8  applicant  shall  specify  the period of months during which the vehicle
     9  shall be registered, and the fee for such registration shall be prorated

    10  on a monthly basis. Upon receipt of all appropriate  fees  and  applica-
    11  tions,  the  commissioner shall issue a seasonal registration that shall
    12  expire on the last day of the expiration month chosen by the registrant.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after
    14  it shall have become a law; provided, however that the  commissioner  of
    15  the  department of motor vehicles is hereby authorized to promulgate all
    16  rules and regulations and take any other measures necessary to implement
    17  this act on its effective date.
