        AN  ACT  to  authorize  and direct the department of health to conduct a
          study on the effectiveness of portable anti-choking devices

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1. The department of health is hereby authorized and directed
     2  to prepare or have prepared a study on  the  effectiveness  of  portable
     3  anti-choking devices. "Portable anti-choking device" for the purposes of
     4  this act shall mean a portable medical device meant for use in a choking
     5  emergency  which  uses manually created suction to remove blockages from
     6  the airway.
     7    § 2. The department of health shall prepare a report to  the  governor
     8  and  the  legislature  based  on  the findings of the study described in
     9  section one of this act which shall include an analysis of the  findings
    10  of  such  study  including the success rate of the use of portable anti-
    11  choking devices. Such report shall be  filed  within  one  year  of  the
    12  effective date of this act.
    13    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
