        AN ACT to amend the judiciary law, in relation to jury duty exemptions
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The judiciary law is amended by adding a new section 512 to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 512. Jury duty exemptions. (a) Upon claiming an exemption therefrom,
     4  a:
     5    (1) certified first responder,  as  defined  by  subdivision  five  of
     6  section three thousand one of the public health law;
     7    (2) emergency medical technician or advanced emergency medical techni-
     8  cian, as defined by subdivisions six and seven of section three thousand
     9  one of the public health law;
    10    (3)  paid  fireman or volunteer fireman, as defined by subdivision one
    11  of section three of the volunteer firefighters' benefit law; or
    12    (4) volunteer ambulance worker,  as  defined  by  subdivision  one  of
    13  section three of the volunteer ambulance workers' benefit law;
    14  shall be exempt from jury duty.
    15    (b) The chief administrator of the courts shall prescribe a form to be
    16  used  therefor.  Any qualified person may file such form with the appro-
    17  priate commissioner of jurors who shall  thereupon  exempt  such  person
    18  from  jury  duty  as  long  as  such  person  remains  qualified for the
    19  exemption granted pursuant to subdivision (a) of this section.
    20    § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after
    21  it shall have become a law; provided that the chief administrator of the
    22  courts is authorized to promulgate any and all rules and regulations and
    23  take any other measures necessary to implement this act on its effective
    24  date on or before such date.
