        Introduced  by  M.  of A. CHANDLER-WATERMAN -- read once and referred to
          the Committee on Health
 
        AN ACT to amend the public health law, in relation to enacting the nurse
          safety work act
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section  1.  The  public health law is amended by adding a new section
     2  2831 to read as follows:
     3    § 2831. Nurse safety work act. 1. This section shall be known and  may
     4  be cited as the "nurse safety work act".
     5    2. Hospitals will be required to implement safety procedures to ensure
     6  that hospital staff is never alone with a patient unless:
     7    (a)  the staff member has a tracking device that can be used to signal
     8  for assistance; or
     9    (b) additional hospital staff is within a close distance or range  and
    10  is able to hear and assist a co-worker's call for help.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
