RAMOS, MAGNARELLI, HAWLEY -- read once and referred to the Committee on Veterans' Affairs AN ACT to amend the real property tax law, in relation to authorizing the commissioner of taxation and finance to develop in consultation with the director of the New York state division of veterans' affairs a listing of documents to be used to establish veterans' eligibility for certain property tax exemptions The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 458 of the real property tax law is amended by 2 adding a new subdivision 10 to read as follows: 3 10. The commissioner shall develop in consultation with the director 4 of the New York state division of veterans' affairs a listing of docu- 5 ments to be used to establish eligibility under this section, including 6 but not limited to a certificate of release or discharge from active 7 duty also known as a DD-214 form or an Honorable Service 8 Certificate/Report of Causality from the department of defense. Such 9 information shall be made available to each county, city, town or 10 village assessor's office, or congressional chartered veterans service 11 officers who request such information. The listing of acceptable mili- 12 tary records shall be made available on the internet websites of the 13 division of veterans' affairs and the office of real property tax 14 services. 15 § 2. Section 458-a of the real property tax law is amended by adding a 16 new subdivision 9 to read as follows: 17 9. The commissioner shall develop in consultation with the director of 18 the New York state division of veterans' affairs a listing of documents 19 to be used to establish eligibility under this section, including but 20 not limited to a certificate of release or discharge from active duty 21 also known as a DD-214 form or an Honorable Service Certificate/Report 22 of Causality from the department of defense. This act shall take effect on the one hundred twentieth day after 20 it shall have become a law; provided that, effective immediately, the 21 commissioner of the department of taxation and finance and the director 22 of the New York state division of veterans' affairs are authorized and 23 directed to promulgate and implement any rules and regulations necessary 24 for the implementation of the provisions of this act on or before its 25 effective date.
