        AN ACT to amend the correction law, in relation  to  the  employment  of
          inmates in the county of Nassau to clean up property damaged by graff-
          iti
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-

        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The correction law is amended by adding a new  section  172
     2  to read as follows:
     3    §  172.  Labor of inmates; graffiti clean up; Nassau county.  Notwith-
     4  standing any other provision of law, the  commissioner,  in  cooperation
     5  with  the  Nassau  county  graffiti  task force may cause inmates in the
     6  Nassau county jail in the county of Nassau who  are  physically  capable
     7  thereof  to  be employed for not to exceed eight hours of each day other
     8  than Sundays and public holidays for the purpose of cleaning up property
     9  within the county of Nassau which has been  damaged  by  graffiti.  Such
    10  clean  up  shall  include  the  clean  up of any property, both real and

    11  personal, whether public or private in nature, that has been damaged  by
    12  graffiti;  provided,  however, that prior to undertaking the clean up of
    13  graffiti on private property, the commissioner shall obtain the  written
    14  consent of all owners of such private property.
    15    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
