        Introduced  by M. of A. BARRA -- read once and referred to the Committee
          on Real Property Taxation -- recommitted  to  the  Committee  on  Real
          Property  Taxation  in  accordance  with  Assembly  Rule  3, sec. 2 --
          committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as  amended  and
          recommitted  to  said  committee -- again reported from said committee

          with amendments, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to  said
          committee  --  again  reported  from  said  committee with amendments,
          ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee
 
        AN ACT to authorize Gibson Meeting Halls, Inc. to file applications  for
          real property tax exemptions with the county of Nassau
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary,
     2  the assessor of the county of Nassau is hereby authorized to accept from
     3  Gibson Meeting Halls, Inc. applications for exemption from real property
     4  taxes pursuant to section 420-a of the real property  tax  law  for  the
     5  2007  and 2008 assessment rolls for the parcels acquired by Gibson Meet-
     6  ing Halls, Inc. located in the town of Hempstead at:

     7    (a) 1 Margaret Drive, Valley Stream, otherwise known  as  section  37,
     8  block 584, lot 19;
     9    (b)  153  Cambridge  Street, Valley Stream, otherwise known as section
    10  39, block 470, lot 10; and
    11    (c) 195 East Mineola Avenue, otherwise known as section 37, block 289,
    12  lots 846, 847, 848, 849 and 850.
    13    If accepted, the applications shall be reviewed as if  they  had  been
    14  received on or before the taxable status date established for such roll.
    15    If  satisfied  that  such  organization would otherwise be entitled to
    16  such exemption if such organization had filed applications for exemption
    17  by the appropriate taxable status date, the assessor, upon  approval  of
    18  the  Nassau  county  legislature, may grant exemptions from all taxation
    19  beginning with the date of acquisition of the properties by such  organ-

     1  ization  and  make  appropriate corrections to the subject roll. If such
     2  exemptions are granted and such organization therefore shall  have  paid
     3  any  tax  with  respect  to  the subject roll, the governing body or tax
     4  department  may, in its sole discretion, provide for the refund of those
     5  taxes paid and cancel taxes, fines, penalties,  interest  or  tax  liens
     6  remaining unpaid.
     7    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
