AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to requiring all
subway passenger stations operated by the New York city transit
authority located within one half mile of a hospital to display an "H"
hospital sign
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The public authorities law is amended by adding a new
2 section 1277-b to read as follows:
3 § 1277-b. Required posting of hospital signs. 1. The authority shall
4 clearly and conspicuously display in every passenger station of a subway
5 operated by the New York city transit authority, located within one half
6 mile of a hospital, an "H" hospital sign, consistent with the New York
7 state manual and specifications for a uniform system of traffic control
8 devices, as such manual and specifications may be amended from time to
9 time. The authority shall also display, in connection with such sign, an
10 additional sign that provides the name and street address of the nearest
11 hospital located within one half mile of the passenger station of a
12 subway.
13 2. For purposes of this section, "hospital" shall have the same mean-
14 ing as set forth in the New York state manual and specifications for a
15 uniform system of traffic control devices, as such manual and specifica-
16 tions may be amended from time to time.
17 3. For the purposes of this section, the term "New York state manual
18 and specifications for a uniform system of traffic control devices"
19 shall mean the national manual of uniform traffic control devices
20 promulgated by the federal highway administration pursuant to 23 CFR

4 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
