AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to establishing
a no fare program for transportation on the Long Island Rail Road for
duly enrolled members of the auxiliary police
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 1266 of the public authorities law is amended by
2 adding a new subdivision 14-a to read as follows:
3 14-a. Notwithstanding any other provision of law or the terms of any
4 contract, the authority, in consultation with the Long Island Rail Road,
5 shall establish and implement a no fare program for transportation on
6 the Long Island Rail Road for duly enrolled members of the auxiliary
7 police of the city of New York, the county of Nassau, Nassau county
8 villages and cities, the county of Suffolk, or Suffolk county villages.
9 In establishing such program, which has as its goal increased protection
10 and improved safety for its commuters, the authority and the Long Island
11 Rail Road shall, among other things, consider: (a) requiring such
12 members who ride without cost to register with the Long Island Rail Road
13 as a condition of riding without cost; (b) requiring such members to
14 indicate during such registration process their regular working hours
15 and the Long Island Rail Road trains that such members expect to ride;
16 and (c) periodically re-registering and re-validating such members. The
17 authority and the Long Island Rail Road shall also have the power to
18 consider other matters necessary to carry out the goals and objectives
19 of this subdivision.
20 § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall
21 have become a law.
