        Introduced by M. of A. CRESPO -- read once and referred to the Committee

        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and  traffic  law,  in  relation  to  carbon
          monoxide  detectors  in vehicles manufactured and assembled after July
          1, 2021
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  The  vehicle  and  traffic law is amended by adding a new
     2  section 384 to read as follows:
     3    § 384. Carbon monoxide detectors. No  motor  vehicle  manufactured  or
     4  assembled  after  July  first,  two thousand twenty-one shall be sold or
     5  registered in this state unless  such  vehicle  has  the  option  to  be
     6  equipped  with  a  carbon  monoxide  (CO) detector to ensure that carbon
     7  monoxide levels in the cab  of  the  vehicle  have  not  reached  unsafe
     8  levels.
     9    § 2. The commissioner of the department of motor vehicles shall estab-
    10  lish by regulation standards for carbon monoxide detectors in vehicles.
    11    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
