        AN  ACT to amend the civil service law, in relation to providing excused
          leave for public officers or employees of the state for  participation
          in their child's education
 

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The civil service law is amended by adding  a  new  section
     2  153 to read as follows:
     3    §  153.  Excused  leave to participate in child's education. 1.  Every
     4  public officer or employee of this state shall  be  entitled  to  absent
     5  himself  or  herself for two days per school year and shall be deemed to
     6  have a leave of absence from his or her duties or service as such public
     7  officer or employee of this state, to participate in his or her  child's
     8  education.
     9    2.    Every public officer or employee of this state shall be entitled
    10  to two days of excused leave, per school year, per child.

    11    3. The entire period of the leave of absence granted pursuant to  this
    12  section  shall  be  excused  leave  and shall not be charged against any
    13  other leave such public officer or employee of this state  is  otherwise
    14  entitled to.
    15    §  2.  This  act  shall  take  effect  on  the first of September next
    16  succeeding the date on which it shall have become a law.
