        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to release of records
 

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 2-a of the education law is amended by adding a new
     2  closing paragraph to read as follows:
     3    Within two days of being notified that  a  child  has  transferred  to
     4  another  school  district  or  to  a  private  or charter school, school
     5  authorities in the school district or private school or  charter  school
     6  in  which  the  child  was previously enrolled shall transfer all of the
     7  child's records to the school in  which  the  child  has  enrolled.  For
     8  purposes of this section student records shall include all records main-
     9  tained  by  a  school  or  school  district  which  are  subject  to the
    10  provisions of 20 USC 1232-g.

    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
