        Introduced  by  M.  of  A.  BORES,  BURGOS,  RAGA, ROZIC, SIMONE, STERN,
          SEAWRIGHT, PAULIN, NOVAKHOV -- read once and referred to the Committee
          on Election Law
 
        AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to the  dates  to  file  a
          designating  petition; and providing for the repeal of such provisions
          upon expiration thereof

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  Section  6-158 of the election law is amended by adding a
     2  new subdivision 1-a to read as follows:
     3    1-a. Notwithstanding  the  time  fixed  in  subdivision  one  of  this
     4  section, for the year two thousand twenty-six, such designating petition
     5  required to be filed by such subdivision shall be filed not earlier than
     6  the  thirteenth  Monday  before,  and  not later than the twelfth Monday
     7  preceding the primary election.
     8    § 2. Section 6-134 of the election law is  amended  by  adding  a  new
     9  subdivision 4-a to read as follows:
    10    4-a.  Notwithstanding  the  time  fixed  in  subdivision  four of this
    11  section, for the year two thousand twenty-six, a signature made  earlier
    12  than  forty-one  days  before the last day to file designating petitions
    13  for the primary election, or a signature made  later  than  the  twelfth
    14  Thursday preceding the primary election, shall not be counted.
    15    §  3.  This  act  shall  take  effect January 1, 2026 and shall expire
    16  December 31, 2026 when upon such date the provisions of this  act  shall
    17  be deemed repealed.
