        Introduced  by M. of A. BOYLAND -- read once and referred to the Commit-
          tee on Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law and the election law, in  relation  to
          the registration and enrollment of high school students by mail
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

 
     1    Section 1.  The education law is amended by adding a new section 806-b
     2  to read as follows:
     3    § 806-b.  Voter registration. 1. Each public or private high school or
     4  secondary school within the  state  shall  provide  an  application  for
     5  registration  and  enrollment  by  mail  pursuant to article five of the
     6  election law to each student in such school  who  will  be  eligible  to
     7  register  in that calendar year, and may assist such students in execut-
     8  ing such application.
     9    2. Upon receipt of any such application forms, each such  high  school
    10  shall transmit such forms to the appropriate local board of elections.
    11    §  2. Subdivision 2 of section 5-210 of the election law is amended by
    12  adding a new paragraph (c) to read as follows:

    13    (c) Each county board of elections shall make  application  forms  for
    14  registration  and  enrollment  by  mail  available  to  high schools and
    15  secondary schools in the county in  sufficient  quantity  so  that  such
    16  schools may comply with the provisions of section eight hundred six-b of
    17  the education law.
    18    §  3.   This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
    19  have become a law.
