          on Governmental Operations
 
        AN ACT to amend the executive law, in relation to expanding the investi-
          gative authority of the attorney general
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 63 of the executive law is amended by adding a  new
     2  subdivision 17 to read as follows:
     3    17.  Investigate  the  alleged commission of sexual misconduct, sexual
     4  harassment, sexual abuse or sexual assault  with  respect  to  statewide
     5  elected officials, members of the legislature, employees of the legisla-
     6  ture, state officers and employees, as defined in sections seventy-three
     7  and seventy-three-a of the public officers law, candidates for statewide
     8  elected  office and candidates for the senate or assembly, and to prose-
     9  cute the person or persons believed to have committed the same  and  any
    10  crime  or  offense  arising  out of such investigation or prosecution or
    11  both, including but not limited to appearing before and  presenting  all
    12  such matters to a grand jury.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
