          tee on Transportation
 
        AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to  authorizing
          the issuance of a prorated refund for driver's license renewal fees in
          certain circumstances
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-

        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Paragraph (c-2) of subdivision 2  of  section  503  of  the
     2  vehicle  and  traffic law, as added by section 1 of part S of chapter 57
     3  of the laws of 2000, is amended to read as follows:
     4    (c-2) Refunds. The commissioner shall give or  cause  to  be  given  a
     5  prorated  refund of any fees paid for a driver's license renewal, pursu-
     6  ant to paragraph (c) of this subdivision for [the] any unused portion of
     7  such license renewal period [commencing after completion of  four  years
     8  of  the  period of validity of such license], provided that such license
     9  is not suspended or revoked  and  is  surrendered  to  the  commissioner
    10  before the end of such [four year] renewal period and application there-

    11  for  is  filed with the commissioner no later than three months from the
    12  expiration of such [four year] renewal period.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day  after  it  shall
    14  have become a law.
