AN ACT to allow Tammy Sciavillo, wife of deceased firefighter Vito Scia-
villo, to file an application for continuation of state health insur-
ance benefits
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Notwithstanding the provisions of any general or special
2 law, rule, or regulation to the contrary, Tammy Sciavillo, the wife of
3 deceased firefighter Vito Sciavillo, who was employed by the Greenville
4 Fire District in the county of Westchester at the time of his death on
5 August 30, 2022, is hereby authorized to file an application for the
6 continuation of state health insurance benefits pursuant to section
7 165-a of the civil service law. Ms. Sciavillo shall be deemed eligible
8 for such benefits notwithstanding the discontinuation thereof following
9 her husband's death. Such application, if filed with the New York state
10 department of civil service within one year of the effective date of
11 this act, shall be deemed as timely filed.
12 § 2. All costs of implementing the provisions of this act, as they
13 pertain to the authorization for Ms. Sciavillo to file for continuation
14 of state health insurance benefits, shall be paid by the Greenville Fire
15 District. All future costs associated with the implementation of this
16 act shall be subject to the provisions of article fourteen of the civil
17 service law.
18 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
