AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to developing guidelines
to encouraging participation in apprenticeships and raising awareness
in apprenticeship opportunities
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
2 subdivision 57 to read as follows:
3 57. The commissioner shall, in consultation with the department of
4 labor and pupil personnel advocates, develop guidelines for use by high
5 school counselors and guidance counselors to coordinate services with
6 local representatives of the building and construction trade councils,
7 port maritime councils, and councils of manufacturing and industry for
8 purposes of encouraging participation in apprenticeships, pre-appren-
9 ticeships, career and technical education and raising awareness
10 surrounding apprenticeships, pre-apprenticeships, and career and techni-
11 cal education opportunities. Such guidelines shall be made available on
12 the department's website and shall be updated annually.
13 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
