        AN  ACT  to  amend  the  general  business law, in relation to requiring
          certain safety measures where animals are housed or displayed
 

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
     2  392-j to read as follows:
     3    §  392-j.  Animal  fire safety requirements. 1. Every closed permanent
     4  structure where animals are  housed  or  displayed,  including  but  not
     5  limited  to pet shops, kennels, riding stables and indoor animal exhibi-
     6  tions,  except  a  circus,  shall  be  equipped  with  a  working   fire
     7  suppression  system;  and  shall  have  a  working alarm system which is
     8  directly connected to police and/or fire fighting facilities.
     9    2. The provisions of subdivision one of this section shall  not  apply
    10  to farms.

    11    §  2.  This  act  shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall
    12  have become a law.
