        Introduced  by  M.  of  A.  GOTTFRIED  --  read once and referred to the

        AN ACT to amend the education  law,  in  relation  to  phasing  out  the
          specialist assistant registration
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 

     1    Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new  section  6549
     2  to read as follows:
     3     §  6549.  Specialist assistant registration; registration requirement
     4  phase-out. 1. No new registration  for  specialist  assistant  shall  be
     5  granted one year after the effective date of this section.
     6    2.  Any  person  who  is registered under this article as a specialist
     7  assistant and meets all the requirements of law and  regulation  on  the
     8  day  before  one  year after the effective date of this section shall be
     9  permitted to continue to practice in that capacity under applicable  law
    10  and  regulation and any other provisions deemed necessary by the commis-
    11  sioner.
    12    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
