Go to top STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 8105--A 2015-2016 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY June 9, 2015 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. BARRETT -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Education -- recommitted to the Committee on Education in accordance with Assembly Rule 3, sec. 2 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said commit- tee AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to an education and awareness program on tick identification and protection The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision 55 to read as follows: 3 55. The commissioner, in collaboration with the commissioner of health 4 and the commissioner of environmental conservation shall develop 5 instructional tools and materials for school districts and libraries to 6 assist in the education and awareness program to protect children from 7 lyme disease and tick-borne infections. Resources and materials shall be 8 age-appropriate for school-age students and provide information on the 9 identification of ticks, recommended procedures for safe tick removal 10 and best practices to provide protection from ticks. Such materials may 11 include but not be limited to video productions, pamphlets, and demon- 12 stration programs to illustrate the various sizes of ticks before and 13 after it has engorged to assist with the identification of a tick and 14 the reaction on the skin that may occur as a result of a tick bite. 15 Materials and instructional tools to advance and promote education 16 awareness on tick identification and protection shall be made available 17 to school districts and libraries upon request at no charge. 18 § 2.
